Dear Residents,
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many economic and societal challenges globally and locally. These are unprecedented times and as responsible residential property owners and managers; we want to support our residents with important information and resources.
We want our residents to be aware of measures the federal government has implemented to support residents who may be experiencing financial hardship such as job loss, caring for family, or illness due to COVID-19.
GOVERNMENT MEASURES
The government announced economic support measures that will help Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures include:
Temporary income support: If you are sick, quarantined or staying home to care for children and find yourself without paid sick leave, the government is providing increased access to Employment Insurance (EI).
Longer-term income support: If you lose your job or are facing reduced hours due to COVID-19, the government is introducing an Emergency Support Benefit and the implementation of an EI Work Sharing Program.
Other targeted measures: There are many additional funding options for groups such as First Nations, students, seniors, and those requiring the need of shelters.
Here are some resources you may be eligible for:
Employment Insurance
If you are eligible for EI benefits, you will receive a minimum taxable benefit at a rate of $500 per week, or $300 per week for extended parental benefits.
Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)
You may be eligible to receive $500/week for up to 26 weeks. This is for workers who are self-employed or are not eligible for Employment Insurance.
Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB)
You may be eligible to receive $500/week, for up to 26 weeks per household. This is for eligible workers who can’t work because they are providing care to their family due to school or childcare facility closures.
Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB)
You may be eligible to receive $500/week for up to two weeks. This is for workers who can’t work due to sickness or must self-isolate due to COVID-19 related reasons.
